How Exposure is Determined
Our school nurse communicates daily with the county public health teams on positive COVID-19 and possible exposure cases. The district wants you to be aware of what triggers a communication from school.
-
If an individual tests positive for COVID-19 and attends school/school events while infectious, communication via a letter to the parents/guardians of identified students in shared spaces/classrooms and/or an entire school population who are not deemed close contacts. If you receive this communication, your child DOES NOT need to quarantine and you should continue to monitor your child for any COVID-like symptoms.
-
If an individual tests positive for COVID-19 and comes in close contact, a letter and a phone call to parents/guardians of close contacts. Additionally, a member of the public health department or a school nurse/official will call to provide steps for quarantine and possible testing.
- What does being a Close Contact to a COVID-19 positive individual mean?
- For COVID-19, CLOSE CONTACT is defined by WI Dept. of Health Services as to any individual who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes, OR someone who had direct physical contact (e.g. hug, kiss, shake hands, etc.) with an infected person, OR someone who had contact with an infected person’s respiratory secretions (cough, sneeze, contact with dirty tissue, sharing a glass, food or other personal items.).

Did You Know?
If you are a Close Contact, a negative COVID-19 test does NOT mean you can leave your 14-day quarantine.
